What Is Feldenkrais? – Awareness Through Movement

The Feldenkrais Method is often described as a way to learn through movement.

But more deeply, it is a method to rediscover how we move, feel, and sense ourselves — to restore the natural intelligence of the body.

Unlike exercise or stretching, Feldenkrais is not about pushing the body to perform.

It is about listening.

Through slow, mindful movements, we begin to notice how tension, effort, and old habits shape our posture and the way we act in daily life.

As awareness grows, the nervous system starts to reorganize itself.

New options appear — movements become lighter, breathing freer, posture more effortless.

It is a process of re-educating the body and mind together, where improvement comes not from doing more, but from sensing more clearly.

Feldenkrais can be seen as a form of body-scan meditation in motion.

Instead of guiding attention through touch, as in our fascia massage therapy, Feldenkrais uses movement and awareness to guide the mind through the body.

Each small motion becomes a question:

“How does this feel?”

“What happens when I do a little less?”

“What would it be like to move with ease rather than effort?”

In this way, the practice opens access to deeper layers of perception and creativity.

Clients often notice that after a Feldenkrais session, they not only move better — they think more clearly, breathe more calmly, and feel more present in their own skin.

The beauty of this work is that it connects the outer and inner worlds:

better coordination, posture, and mobility arise naturally when the inner awareness awakens.

It is a process of learning from within, not of correction from outside.

At CrossPhysio, we offer Feldenkrais Workshops in cooperation with Elisabeth Wetzel, a highly skilled Feldenkrais practitioner living in Kyoto, Japan.
